Reflections on Writing The Walk Away
One of the most difficult parts of writing The Walk Away: A Memoir of Survival, Faith, and the Road to Redemption was bringing back so many memories from my childhood. But even harder than remembering was looking back at the child I once was — and realizing that, in some ways, I betrayed him, in ways he would never have wanted me to.
As I look at this image — that child smiling toward the older version of me — I see not judgment, but forgiveness. A silent grace that reminds me that redemption often begins when we forgive ourselves for the ways we lost our way. A visual journey of survival and redemption.
